Virtually all of the information in this ‘e.book’ comes from documents available at the National Archives or released under the Freedom of Information Act by the Cabinet Office and the Home Office. Far too many documents have been seen to list here but anyone wishing to look at the original documents at the National Archives should start with the CAB21 and CAB134 series. Some of the key documents from the files in the National Archives are reproduced with the their kind permission.

The author would also like to thank the following for their generous help – Mark Bennett, Nick Catford, Robin Cherry, English Heritage, Dom Jackson, Bob Jenner, Mike Kenner, Ministry of Defence, Oxford Archaeology, Andy Quinn, Tim Robinson and James Waller.
